During this five-day Summer Academy at OSU Institute of Technology, three groups of approximately fifteen students each work in mock companies to create, manufacture, and market student creations. Students learn how to harness the energy from the sun to power up seven models of real-world vehicles and devices. Students may either construct a car that races with only sunshine in its tank; build a roving robot and a roaming radio telescope; take to the skies in a solar blimp, helicopter or ultra light glider; or cruise the swamps in an ecologically-friendly solar fan boat. Students also learn how solar cells use sunlight to produce electricity, discover how much energy the Sun has to offer, read about real applications of solar technology already in existence, and start dreaming up solar-powered inventions. Once the computer design and manufacturing of the student?s creations are completed, students learn the business and marketing side of running a company. Students gain valuable insight into technology-related careers and opportunities to apply their Summer Academy learning experiences to real-world situations.
Arts and Sciences Division hosts a Summer Success Camp in which instruction from college faculty allow students to brush up on basic skills and prepare for the COMPASS placement test.
OSU Institute of Technology hosts the TRiO Upward Bound program for the summer college experience, scheduled tutoring, and scheduled Saturday field trips.
The new Tutorial Learning Center, located in Room 105 of the Learning Resource Center, features full access to all Library and College Readiness resources. Free tutoring in a variety of subjects offered through the College's Arts and Sciences Division is available to all current and prospective OSU Institute of Technology students.
