"Our students have jobs waiting for them before they graduate - at good pay. Helpers can expect to make $9 to $10 an hour. Experienced journeymen can earn $17 to $24 per hour in the Tulsa area. Contractors earn even more."

If you're ready to make good money and possibly even own your own business, your best step is an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Plumbing Technology from OSU Institute of Technology. In this program, students learn:

  • International plumbing code
  • International fuel gas code
  • Blueprint reading
  • System design
  • Safety
  • Excavation
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Diversity

Earn!

The national average income for plumbers is $20 an hour. Salaries start at $10 to $15 per hour in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas.

Learn!

Learn in specially-equipped, hands-on laboratories designed by faculty to simulate industrial, commercial, and residential plumbing. Become an apprentice or journeyman - and then reach beyond. "The program is getting me prepared. It's the only school in Oklahoma that offers an associate degree, which I can use to get a bachelor's later." -- Quintin Cavnar, Oklahoma City - soon to be a fourth generation plumber.

Achieve!

With additional training, some plumbers become supervisors for mechanical and plumbing contractors. Others go into business for themselves.

Job opportunities are expected to be very good, as demand for skilled plumbers is expected to outpace the supply of workers well trained in this technology. Employers report difficulty finding workers with the right qualifications. In addition, many people currently working in these trades are expected to retire over the next 10 years, which will create additional job openings.
