Student Attributes for ABET Information Technology Programs

An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline;
An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution;
An ability to design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs;
An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal;
An understanding of professional, ethical and social responsibilities;
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
An ability to analyze the impact of computing on individuals, organizations and society, including ethical, legal, security and global policy issues;

The OSU Institute of Technology Information Technologies Division Information Assurance and Forensics Program will enable its graduates to:

Gain an applied foundation in the core information technologies;
Explain the relevance of past and present social, ethical and cultural movements in their field;
Develop and deploy technical solutions.

The OSU Institute of Technology Information Assurance and Forensics Program will enable its students to

Effectively communicate electronically, verbally and in writing.
Demonstrate logical, systematic problem-solving techniques.
Develop and display a sense of personal, social and professional work ethics.
Explain the cultural heritage and primary elements of history and government of the U.S. and its people, especially as it impacts one’s industry or field of study.
Access and use technology appropriate to one’s industry or field of study.
An ability to design, implement, evaluate and support secure information systems and technologies.

- Software/Web Development Concentration - An ability to design, develop, test, implement and maintain computer, database and web applications.
- Information Security Concentration - An ability to analyze, evaluate and implement security strategies and technologies.
- Network Infrastructure Concentration - An ability to analyze, evaluate, implement and support network infrastructure systems and technologies.
An ability to apply and facilitate technical and non-technical skills and knowledge to develop and implement IT security-related solutions.
