Search Engines

A search engine, such as Google, Excite or WebCrawler, is designed to direct you to information on the Internet. Search engines are helpful when brainstorming for research topics, investigating new ideas or tracking down unique information.

When to use? Anytime you want to brainstorm for a variety of topics or examine new ideas. You can accumulate large amounts of information using a search engine, especially when documenting your resources is not a concern.

MetaSearch Engines

Operate by sending queries to several search engines, but are limited in the number of search variables that can be used. MetaSearch engines are most useful in conducting wide Internet searches. Some of the most popular ones follow.
