U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS)

USCIS is responsible for administration of immigration and naturalization adjudication and establishing immigration services policies and priorities. These functions include:

  • adjudication of immigrant visa petitions;
  • adjudication of naturalization petitions;
  • adjudication of asylum and refugee applications;
  • adjudications performed at the service centers, and
  • all other adjudications performed by Immigration Services.

Fifteen thousand (15,000) federal employees and contractors working in approximately 250 Headquarters and field offices around the world comprise the USCIS.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

ICE is responsible for eliminating vulnerabilities in the nation's border, and with economic, transportation and infrastructure security. ICE is composed of four enforcement divisions:

  • Office of Congressional Relations (OCR) promotes Congressional awareness of ICE operations, programs, policies and initiatives.
  • Office of Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) transports, manages while in custody, and removes unauthorized aliens from the United States.
  • Federal Protective Service (FPS) is responsible for policing, securing and ensuring a safe environment in which federal agencies can conduct their business.
  • Office of Intelligence collects, analyzes and shares intelligence data to ICE and DHS.

  • Recovery - Lead sector efforts to restore services and rebuild communities after acts of terrorism, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
  • Service - Facilitating lawful trade, travel and immigration.
  • Organizational Excellence - Create a culture that promotes a common identity, innovation, mutual respect, accountability and teamwork to achieve efficiencies, effectiveness, and operational synergies.
