International Re-Enrollment

Re-enrollment for students preparing for additional academic terms at OSU Institute of Technology has fewer steps than a student who is enrolling for the first academic term. A representative from the student’s academic office will coordinate the enrollment process, with cooperation from other campus departments, including International Affairs.

Important Note: On the first day of classes, each and every academic term, each international student must present him or herself in person to the DSO. The DSO can then “register” the student for the new academic term in the SEVIS. A telephone call, email, or message by any other means will not satisfy this requirement!

Off-Campus and Post-Graduation Training: Students who will be going on internship or graduating during the next academic term will have special needs to address.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT): To the federal government, “internships” are called “curricular practical training”, have particular rules and limitations, and require that particular information be acquired ahead of time. The International Affairs DSO will guide the student in preparing for this event, with the assistance of the student’s academic department.

Optional Practical Training (OPT): Upon graduation, the graduate must either return home to their country of origin, or is allowed to apply for “optional practical training” (on the job training) in the United States. Again, there are particular rules and limitations, and this requires pre-approval by the federal government. The International Affairs DSO will guide the student in preparing for this event, with the assistance of the student’s academic department.
