Dear Prospective International Student:

OSU Institute of Technology welcomes International Students, and wants the application process to be simple and pleasant; however, regulations require that the information requested be obtained by the university. The primary purpose of this letter is to serve as a checklist to help you complete the application process properly. Therefore, it is very important that you read this letter carefully, and respond with exactness to each requirement for application.

  • All materials submitted must be written in English (language), and/or U.S. Dollars.
  • The application must include a $15.00 USD Application Processing Fee. Funds sent must be in the form of a certified international bank draft.
  • All required documents must be packaged together and addressed to:

  • The university will not accept mail that is marked C.O.D. or Insufficient Postage!
  • Allow six (6) months of processing effort to obtain both a form I-20 and F-1 student visa:

Please remember: The university issues the federal I-20 form that denotes acceptance of the applicant as a student, which is a necessary step in the visa application process; however, the university has no influence or interference concerning the federal government's processing for or awarding of a student visa.

The following is a checklist of forms and documents that must be submitted by foreign nationals who wish to be considered for acceptance as an international student at OSU Institute of Technology:

Application for International Admission
  • Along with this form, submit a non-refundable application processing fee of $15 (U.S. dollars).
  • All payments (fees, tuition, etc.) sent must be in the form of an international bank draft.
Biography

Submit a typed, informational story about yourself; including information on:

  • why you want to study in the field or major selected;
  • how this education advance you toward your future personal and professional goals;
  • why you selected OSU Institute of Technology for this effort;
  • narrative about your travels, employment, language and culture, leadership and military experiences, past accomplishments and future goals, and academics;

Also include a passport type picture of yourself.

Financial Certification

You must provide evidence guaranteeing that you have funds available to complete your program-of-study. With the financial certification form, also include:

  • Evidence of funds available: Submit a certified statement obtained from your financial institution verifying that funds are available for this use. This certified statement should be dated no more than six (6) months prior to the date your application is submitted.
  • Letter of Authorization: If your expenses will be paid by someone other than yourself, you must submit a letter of guarantee (form enclosed) that is signed by person or authority providing funding, with either an official signature-witness (by a bank or government official) or licensed-notary of that person's signature.
  • Advance-payment: An estimated total semester costs must be paid prior to the start of each academic term. Adjustments due to overage or insufficiency will be adjusted prior to the end of the academic term.
  • Tuition Assistance: Tuition assistance for international student studies is a competitive program established criteria. Please inquire with the university concerning the details of this program and the application process.
Health Services Report

This form, certified by your physician, provides a health and inoculation report; include with this:

  • Evidence that a Hospitalization/Medical Insurance-Expatriation policy will be in force for term of attendance. International students are required to have major-medical insurance coverage.
  • Informational note: The medical exam report received with the application packet will be reviewed, and must be approved by a representative of OSU Institute of Technology Health Services.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required (unless the applicant is from a country that identifies English as its first-language). A copy of the TOEFL scores must be submitted with the application, or from TOEFL.

Consideration will be given to those who have successfully completed an English as a Second Language (ESL) program from an approved training center in the United States (TOEFL of 460 plus 12 weeks of ESL training).

A certified-copy or original transcript from high school and any other university attended must be sent with the application packet; applicant should also submit a copy of any proficiency certifications acquired.

If you are currently enrolled in a U.S. university, a university transfer form (enclosed) must be completed by your current-university administration, and that form sent with your application packet.

Signed and witnessed authorization for the release of confidential information forms.

After receipt of the application packet
  • After the application materials are reviewed and the applicant accepted for admission, you will be informed that a U.S. Student & Exchange Visitor Information System form I-20 form is being issued and mailed.
  • The SEVIS I-20 form issued in your name is necessary for you to proceed with obtaining an F-1 student visa. The U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement department (ICE) will determine eligibility for a student visa. To attain a student visa, you must make visa-application through the U.S. Embassy closest to your home. Please remember: The university issues the federal I-20 form that denotes acceptance of the applicant as a student, however the university has no influence or interference concerning the federal government's processing for or awarding of a student visa.
  • After having been awarded your F-1 Student Visa by the U.S. federal government, it is important that you contact the university's International Affairs office for assistance prior to making travel arrangements.

After arrival in the country, you must contact university's International Affairs office immediately. The university is required to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when an international student does not report when expected.

After arriving on OSU Institute of Technology campus, the international student must report in person to the
  • International Affairs Office to complete the student file, and receive instructions for enrolling.
  • Residential Life Office to complete arrangements for on-campus living facilities and meal-plan.
  • Admissions Office for campus identification card, and to arrange for official enrollment and classes scheduling.
Please be aware
  • Costs respond to economic conditions. Although OSU Institute of Technology provides currently accurate information, costs quoted (verbally or written) are not guaranteed and are subject to change without notice.
  • The process necessary to become an international student attending in the U.S. is cumbersome and time-consuming. It is vital that you begin the process well in advance of the date that the study program begins.
  • Entering the United States workforce without the proper authorization or classification is a reason for the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) to cancel a student visa and order repatriation.
