Student Privacy Rights
As required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology advises students of their privacy rights. OSU Institute of Technology may disclose information to parents of students in two ways:
1. by obtaining the student's written consent, if the student is independent.
2. by having the parents sign an affidavit establishing the student's dependency as defined by Internal Revenue Code of 1954. This form is available in the Registrar's Office upon request.
Students of Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology have the right to:
- inspect and review information contained in their educational records.
- challenge the contents of their educational records.
- hold a hearing if the outcome of their challenge is not satisfactory.
- submit an explanatory statement for inclusion in their educational record if the outcome of their hearing is unsatisfactory.
- prevent disclosure, with certain exceptions, of personal information from their educational record.
- secure a copy of the institutional policy, which includes the location of all educational records.
Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology has declared the following to be open directory information:
- student's name
- student's address (local and permanent)
- student's telephone number
- student's date and place of birth
- program(s) of study engaged
- dates of attendance at OSU Institute of Technology
- academic awards granted
- class schedule
- participation in official organizations and activities
- sex
- parents' names and addresses
- student picture
